11. What Does it Mean to be Certified by the Medical Fitness Association?
Since 1991, the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) has been dedicated to the successful operation of medical fitness facilities worldwide. MFA’s facility certification is the recognized mark of excellence in the health and wellness industry. The certification process is an integral part of ensuring that facilities provide medical oversight, quality, and safety of programs and services that support the vital role medical fitness centers perform. An established set of parameters document and represent the standards and guidelines applicable to the design and operation of medical fitness facilities.
To maintain the medical fitness facility certification, a comprehensive review of the facility operations and programming is conducted every three years at the wellness centers. The MFA reviews and scores centers in the following areas:
1. Medical Oversight
2. Quality Management
3. Pre-Activity Screening
4. Risk Management and Emergency Response
5. Programs and Services
6. Children and Youth
7. Aquatics
8. Professional Staffing
9. Facility Operations
