Fitness Hero: Charissa Covey

AMFC Member Paul Ten Haken nominated AMFC Member Services Rep and Group Exercise Instructor, Charissa Covey as an AMFC Fitness Hero.  From Paul, “She’s quite pregnant, but still finds time to workout.  She can be a bit crabby sometimes but it’s just because she works out so hard.” (ha ha)

Says Charissa, “Once I was done playing college basketball, I needed a way to keep competing, so I started running races.  After moving to Sioux Falls and having access to the fitness center, I started incorporating weights and classes to my workout routine.  I loved taking group exercise classes and set the goal of becoming a group exercise instructor.  Teaching classes at AMFC is a blast for me.  I love the people and the variety.

Working out while pregnant has always gone well for me. I can do most of the same exercises, just at a lesser intensity. If I stay active throughout the 9 months, it is easier to get back into it after the baby comes.

Fitness to me is fun, because it  can be such a social event. As a mostly stay-at-home mom, that adult interaction is the best!”
