Cancer Exercise Program

The daily journey through cancer to renewed, whole-health and wellness requires many supports: appropriate exercise and movement, nurturing nutrition, practices for relaxation and de-stressing, and community for sharing, inspiration, motivation, humor, conversation and comfort. All of these supports are provided within the cancer exercise program at Avera McKennan Fitness Center.

Our Movin’ On Cancer Exercise Program
The Movin’ On Cancer Exercise Program is for patients currently undergoing treatment as well as those who have completed treatment. Exercises are tailored to individuals’ needs and modified as appropriate so participants can work at their own pace. Participants are required to obtain medical clearance from their physician and will need to complete a medical health history questionnaire prior to beginning the program.

Our eight-week program includes:

  • Pre -and post-assessments for cardio, strength, and flexibility
  • Half-hour weekly one-on-one with a MindBody personal trainer for stress reduction, immune system enhancement, improved sleep, and overall well-being
  • One-hour weekly session with personal trainer for cardio, flexibility, and strength exercise guidance
  • One-hour consultation with a registered dietitian for a complementary nutrition plan
  • Fitness Center membership with full access for an eight-week period
  • Post-program physician report
