Jessie Lund smiles and laughs in her good-natured way when asked what she enjoys doing in her spare time. She’s an LPN working at Bethany Meadows and is studying full-time to become a Registered Nurse. She is a massage therapist at AMFC and at the Avera Women’s Center and is certified in Healing Touch, or Reiki, and cupping therapies. Â At home, Jessie and her husband Adam are always busy enjoying their three children, 10 year old Alexandria, 9 year old Devyn and 3 year old Lillian.
When Jessie was just 12 years old, she never imagined that the whopping migraines plaguing her, along with hypoglycemia, would indeed subside and would eventually point the way to her life’s work. Her own journey to wellness lead her and her parents to complementary therapies as well as conventional prescriptions to find relief and healing. Step by step, she began building a life centered on learning about, practicing and sharing health and healing.
Through her work as an LPN and as a massage therapist, Jessie values having the knowledge and experience to balance clinical medical care with complementary therapies because she knows first hand the frustration and discouragement that people can endure due to chronic medical conditions and pain. Healing Touch, or Reiki, uses very light touch, if any, to balance the body’s electromagnetic energy to restore calm and relax muscles easing pain, to engage deeper breathing for more effective oxygen intake, and to help the body’s immune system work to its optimum capacity. “For some people, even gentle massage can feel like too much pressure,” Jessie explains, “so Healing Touch can provide benefits of massage in a way that feels more comfortable.”
Less well-known in our region is the therapy called “cupping”. Small glass suction cups are placed on acupressure points to stimulate the lymphatic system and ease muscle adhesion. Jessie has employed this therapy to aid healing for conditions of edema and frozen shoulder among others, for example.
Currently, Jessie provides therapeutic  massage, Healing Touch and cupping therapies at Avera McKennan Fitness Center on Monday evenings and Wednesday morning to early afternoons. Call 322-5300 to schedule an appointment with Jessie Lund.
